Shattered World - Segment 53.3 "Leningrad und Smolensk, oder Tod" Nuclear fire blossomed like the all consuming brilliance of some ancient warrior god. In the middle, hell boiled and reached upwards for the heavens. All around, concentric circles of overpressure extend out to snuff out life and property like a million angry fists, smashing all before them. 40 kilotons of death and mayhem, delivered from the great predator birds of war - flying far overhead, now withdrawing eastward with fighters in vain pursuit; like gnats pricking the giants of old or hawks throwing themselves at the Earth in desperate rage. Shifting the viewpoint downward and out to sea, to the inferno that had been the Island of Okinawa. The battle lines are stark, brutal scars cutting their jagged path across a tortured terrain becoming more that of nightmare by the hour. Craters dot the land, making it appear like the surface of some hostile alien world. Off the coast, gr...

Bobby just a couple of quick questions on the eve of the new update
1) Are the Germans putting together any kind of force to take the Petsamo area in Finland away from the Soviets using troops they already have in Norway in the Kirkenes area – mainly for the ice free port there and also the nickel mines?
2) Are the Tigers back in action and will the next update show them fighting to break thru the Beria line fortifications?
3) We know that the Italian navy is concentrating to keep the Western and central Med under their control. Previously you mentioned the Germans had established bases in the Med for their navy – how big are German naval units in the Med and are they operating independently of the Italians?
4) How long will it be till the Germans have some kind of B-34 defense in place now that Japan has managed to kill at least one B-34 using their rocket interceptors?
Note that this isn't really new stuff, its just stuff from a few months ago that previously was only up here on the main site.

They don't have any plans for this in the short-term. All of their effort is going into the pushes towards Leningrad and Smolensk. Thats the crux of the Eastern Front.
2) Are the Tigers back in action and will the next update show them fighting to break thru the Beria line fortifications?
Tigers, or heavy tanks resembling them, are certainly in action against fortified and dense urban targets. Not sure if they'll get a direct mention or not.
3) We know that the Italian navy is concentrating to keep the Western and central Med under their control. Previously you mentioned the Germans had established bases in the Med for their navy – how big are German naval units in the Med and are they operating independently of the Italians?
The German naval presence in the Med is mostly submarines and their supporting facilities, plus some naval aviation based out of southern Spain and southern France.

July 5th - German units are within 30 km of Leningrad itself.
August 1st - advanced German units are within 30 km of Leningrad.
The August 1st update clearly makes it sound like the Germans just got to that distance. However the July 5th update says they were already there.
Not sure if you noticed - either it sounds like they were temporarily driven back (which wouldnt make sense with the rest of the update - i.e. Soviets in chaos in the north) or you may want to correct one of those dates to get the right distance - i.e. 30km on July 5th and say 15 km or whatever on August 1st.
Good catch. I changed it so they're they're 40km away on July 5th and 25km away on August 1st

Given that its 1949, would the US Navy be building Midway-class carriers in the same number the Essex-class carriers were in the OTL? Or would have they gone to the United States-class?
Next, given that the only reason that the Montana-class battleships weren't built was due to a lack of ship construction space, would they have been built by 1949? The first four were due to be laid-down in 1945, so concieveably, they could have taken on Germany's H-Class (successor to Bismarck-class).

I think your book (s) are great!
I downloaded all of them and pasted them into a MS Word document.
Once I get the font (size-8) and formatting done, I'll convert it into a pdf file (with tabs to the Chapters).
Will be interesting to see the invasion of Japan. You better pick the right time of the year, otherwise no cross-country movement because of the monsoon-flooded terrain.
